PCS Company, Fraser, Michigan, a supplier of mold bases, mold components and molding supplies, has released Moldshield™ which protects molded parts from damage and contamination during production, and helps reduce material waste as well.
Injection molders with cleanroom operations or those who are looking for ways to contain thousands or even millions of molded parts during production will benefit from Moldshield™, said Kory Kline, director of marketing for PCS Company. “Moldshields act like a curtain that helps contain molded parts once they are ejected from the mold,” he says. “They are an economical way to protect the parts from damage or floor contamination and they are very easy to install. Fewer damaged parts mean less material waste and less plastic that may end up in landfills, which is an added benefit.”
The clear plastic “curtains” use powerful magnets and mounting hardware to attach to the molds, while enabling molding techs to observe the molding area and monitor parts in production. Mold changes and mold maintenance are no trouble because Moldshield™ can quickly and easily be detached and reattached as needed, saving valuable time.
Made of heavy-gauge, chemical-resistant film, Moldshields are sold in pairs (one for each side of the mold). As the mold actuates, Moldshield™ expands and retracts with it, keeping parts secure within the molding machine drop zone – and safe from damage or contamination.
Moldshields can withstand operating temperatures of up to 250° F. Standard lengths, ranging from eight inches up to 47 inches, are available. For larger applications, multiple Moldshields can be used for a mold.
