Press release submitted on behalf of Star Plastics.
Ravenswood, West Virginia – April 30, 2024 – Star Plastics, an industry leading custom compounder of engineering-grade thermoplastics has recently increased its capabilities and capacity with new equipment added to production and its labs within the past year. Since August of 2023, two twin-screw extruders were installed, another was recommissioned and many assets in production and in the lab were brought on board.
CEO Daniel McMullen said, “Star Plastics continues to invest in our infrastructure and people. We have spent a considerable amount of time and effort bringing new equipment online that expands both our production capacity and capabilities. This is great for all Star products including our reNova® recycled content resins, to help our customers reach their sustainability goals.”
In August 2023, a new product development twin-screw extruder was installed at the company’s Ravenswood, West Virginia facility. Two other extruders were commissioned in January: a new larger high-torque twin-screw at Star’s Millwood, West Virginia plant and a new twin screw extruder to satisfy customer requirements for smaller lot and specialty products.
Other new production equipment, including internally developed and designed auxiliary and process machinery, has been installed within the past year.
Star’s laboratories at each plant have added lab-scale injection molders. This gives both labs new technology which helps in speed-to-market for product development, as well as accuracy. Other lab equipment installed in the last year includes a desiccated resin dryer, melt indexers and moisture analyzers at both plants, and a smaller portable version for customer trials. A new lab-scale mixer has also been installed.
As Star continues to grow in capacity and capabilities it, maintains its strong focus on sustainability and was recently awarded a “good” rating from Eco Vadis, the world’s largest provider of business sustainability ratings.
