PCS Adds Kistler Pressure Sensor Heads and Coaxial Connecting Cables

Cavity Pressure Systems Give Injection Molders More Control, Optimum Production.

PCS Company, Fraser, Michigan, a team of industry experts providing solutions and innovative products for the plastic injection molding, mold making, and die casting industries, announces it has added Kistler Cavity Pressure Sensor Heads and Coaxial Connecting Cables to its extensive line of mold components.

Molders, mold makers and OEMs who are focused on exacting part accuracy and high quality will benefit from Kistler’s piezoelectric cavity pressure sensor heads designed to assist with identifying molding issues such as short shots, sinks, flash and warp.

PCS Company is introducing two styles of pressure sensor heads from Kistler: The 9204 cavity pressure sensor head and the 9211B miniature cavity pressure sensor head. In addition, PCS offers the Kistler 1645C Coaxial Connection Cables.

“Both of the Kistler sensor head units are ‘indirect’ sensors, meaning they are positioned under the ejector pin in the ejector plate and measure the pressure transmitted from the plastic to the sensor during injection of plastic to the mold. Indirect sensors are especially effective for use in molds with limited space, hence our offering of the 9211B miniature style,” says Derrick Jones, PCS Company VP of Sales. “These sensors use precision quartz crystals that release a charge when subjected to pressure or force, providing the accurate data needed to prevent or quickly detect common processing issues.”

Kistler 9204B
The Kistler 9204B cavity pressure sensor head from PCS precisely measures static and quasi-static pressure curves up to 3,000 bar, and up to 392°F/200°C operating temperature. The unit measures 12.6mm in diameter, and its rugged, welded case enables precise, high-resolution measurement during the molding process.

Kistler 9211B
Like the 9204B, the Kistler 9211B miniature cavity pressure sensor offers high resolution capability and a rugged, welded case, for precisely measuring mold cavity pressure of up to 3,000 bar during injection – but with extremely small dimensions, as it measures just 6mm in diameter. The 9211B is ideal for use in tight spaces and small mold cavities where forces are elevated.

Both sensor styles can be retrofitted to existing molds and are compatible with RJG piezoelectric sensors. In addition, because only low-noise coaxial cables that produce very little triboelectricity during movement may be used, PCS offers the Kistler 1645C Coaxial Connection Cables for M4 connections (sold separately). Constructed of stainless steel for durability, these cables are robust, sealed and resistant to dirt while providing measurement reliability and accuracy versus galvanized connectors. Available in 0.40m and 1.0m lengths.
