Press release submitted on behalf of GTP.
Grand Traverse Plastics (GTP), a leader in customized plastic injection molded components, received the Safety Award from the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) at the 53rd Annual SPE Automotive Innovation Awards Gala in Livonia, Michigan. This recognition was a joint achievement alongside General Motors, Quest Industries, Celanese, and Syensqo.
“GTP is honored for this recognition by SPE,” said Bill Knable, GTP CEO. “We strive to partner with like-minded, innovative firms like GM, Quest, Celanese, and Syensqo. Innovation is a key part of our DNA at GTP, and this award echoes that.”
The busbar cable support bracket innovation successfully addressed risks associated with isolation loss, thermal runaway, and high-voltage operator exposure during service. Scrap generation was reduced by 99%, and the number of fasteners was halved, streamlining the design. This award-winning solution was achieved through collaboration among a cross-functional team, with representatives from the OEM, two different material suppliers, the tool maker, and the manufacturer.
