Mold-Masters Plans to Improve Sustainability

Mold-Masters, Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada, shared its plan to maximize post-consumer recycled (PCR) content in all of its sustainability applications, including its five-gallon pails. Mold-Masters has combined two separate resins into a single three-layer melt flow, utilizing its co-injection multi-layer technology – thus enabling Mold-Masters to be able to inject high PCR content as the core layer up to 50% of total part weight.

In its most recent production application, Mold-Masters implemented a two-cavity co-injection system for producing five-gallon pails. Each of the 700g pails incorporated 50% PCR as the core layer. The solution reduces the use of virgin material and TiO₂ compared to traditional mono-layer pails.

Mold-Masters first introduced this capability as part of its advanced industry-leading co-injection technology back in 2015. Uniform leading-edge control allows Mold-Masters to achieve a consistent and fuller core fill.
