With a national commitment to American manufacturing on the rise, El Paso, TX-based Plastic Molding Technology, Inc., jumped at the chance to meet with first-term US Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) and discuss critical national and local issues affecting the manufacturing sector.

Charles Sholtis, chief executive officer of PMT, told O’Rourke funding for training and skilled worker development is needed on the national level and in the local job market. Despite El Paso’s strong manufacturing heritage, he said, local leaders don’t seem to be embracing the renewed enthusiasm and support for manufacturing now being seen at the national level.

O’Rourke said it would take the help of business leaders in the region to make the case to the Obama Administration. Tax reform also was discussed, which many manufacturers believe is important to stimulating economic growth.
