Process control can help catch issues before they lead to scrap, extended cycle times
Plastixs, a leading provider of solutions for plastics manufacturers, now offers the Mouldpro Flosense 2.0 Digital Flow Monitoring System as an option integrated into its manifolds, giving injection molders real-time visibility into critical cooling-circuit performance.
The system provides a fully digital, integrated alternative to traditional single-circuit monitoring used in many shops today. It identifies cooling problems, such as blocked or clogged water lines and uneven cooling, before they lead to increased scrap, extended cycles or unplanned downtime.
“Cooling time has a big impact on ROI,” said Mickey Blyskal, General Manager of Plastixs, who noted that the process accounts for 50-80% of total cycle time. “Often, molders only realize their molds aren’t cooling efficiently when there’s a problem. Flosense allows them to catch any issues earlier.”
Plastixs offers both standard and custom manifold assemblies in stainless steel and aluminum.
High-capacity monitoring of up to 48 cooling circuits
Flosense 2.0 uses dedicated feed and return manifolds, which incorporate flow and temperature sensing, with optional pressure monitoring. Users can connect the system to up to four manifolds, with as many as 12 cooling circuits on each manifold.
Depending on sensor configuration, the system supports flow ranges from as low as 0.5 L/min to 40 L/min. Standard units can monitor temperatures as high as 248°F (120°C), while an optional high-temperature sensor extends monitoring to 320°F (160°C). Systems can be configured with stainless steel or aluminum manifolds in multiple port configurations.
Users can track cooling performance on the system’s intuitive, 7.1-inch touchscreen interface, and leverage the data to speed up mold setups and changeovers andoptimize their process. Customizable alarms provide alerts when flow and temperature thresholds are exceeded.
“It’s costly to find out that your cooling cycle has gotten off-track. Flosense helps molders move toward a more proactive approach, so they’re not always reacting to problems—they’re identifying them earlier,” Blyskal said.
