PCS Company Golf Outing Raises $8,800 to Support Nation’s Heroes, In Honor of Those Lost on September 11

Press release submitted on behalf of PCS.

PCS Company’s fourth annual September 11 charity golf outing raised $8,800 to support the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which supports programs for America’s military and first responders, and provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families, as well as specially adapted smart homes for injured veterans and first responders.

For the past four years, PCS Company has held the golf outing to raise funds for charitable organizations.

This year’s event carried particular significance as it marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Nearly 3,000 people were killed, including 343 New York City firefighters who rushed into the World Trade Center to help others escape.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was established in memory of firefighter Stephen Siller, who had completed his shift and was on his way to play golf with his brothers when he heard about the attacks. He turned around and headed toward Manhattan, reaching the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, which he discovered was closed to traffic. He then strapped on approximately 60 pounds of firefighting gear and ran through the tunnel toward the World Trade Center to help others. The husband and father of five never returned home.

Since its founding, Tunnel to Towers has carried forward a mission to “let us do good” — a mantra Siller’s parents instilled in him. It has provided more than 1,700 mortgage-free homes to first responders, veterans and their families. This year, the foundation planned to deliver 343 mortgage-free homes in memory of Siller and the other fallen firefighters.

Following a moment of silence to remember those who lost their lives in the attacks, PCS Company President Angela Elsey paid tribute to the heroes who, she said, “chose courage over fear” on September 11 to help others.

“The events of September 11 changed our country and left a lasting legacy of courage and service. The actions of people like Stephen Siller continue to inspire us,” she said after the event. “We’re honored to pay tribute to him and the other heroes of that day, and to support Tunnel to Towers, which has done such great work to support the heroes and families who serve our country.”
