Eclipse Mold Celebrates 50 Years of Manufacturing Growth in Macomb County

Press release submitted on behalf of Eclipse.

Eclipse Mold, an IATF 16949-certified manufacturer serving automotive, industrial, defense and medical markets, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month. Over the past five decades, the company has grown from a small tool shop into a $50 million manufacturer specializing in precision tooling, plastic injection molding and assembly services.

Eclipse Mold began in August 1976 in the back corner of a warehouse at Paragon Fastener, where founder Fred S. Craprotta Sr. built molds for larger, overloaded tool shops. He quickly earned a reputation for higher-quality work, greater efficiency and better value. As the business grew, it began to “eclipse” the competition, inspiring the company’s name.

Today, second-generation leadership guides the company under President Steve Craprotta. The company employs 225 people across three Macomb County facilities totaling 148,000 square feet. It is projected to surpass $50 million in sales in 2026. The company produces more than 75 million parts annually, operates 54 electric injection molding machines and manufactures 50 to 100 molds and prototypes each year.

“Fifty years doesn’t happen by accident,” said Steve Craprotta, president of Eclipse Mold. “My father built this company on quality, responsiveness and keeping our word. Those values haven’t changed, even as we’ve grown from a small tool shop into a full-service manufacturing partner serving customers around the world.”

Eclipse Mold manufactures a wide range of automotive interior and exterior components, including safety systems, steering wheel components, roof racks, consoles, bezels, decorative trim, engine system components and e-mobility components. The company’s products are found in vehicles built by nearly every major automaker, including Ford, GM, Honda, Jeep, Lucid, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Rivian and Stellantis.

The company has also expanded into defense manufacturing, producing polymer casings for small-arms ammunition for the U.S. Army, lightweight components for the U.S. Army Research Laboratory and drone components.

Eclipse Mold will celebrate its 50th anniversary later this month with employees and suppliers, recognizing their contributions to the company’s growth and success over the past five decades.

“Looking ahead, we plan to expand our presence in medical and pursue new opportunities in electrical infrastructure, while continuing to invest in advanced manufacturing technologies and our Michigan operations,” continued Craprotta. “None of this would be possible without the dedication of our leadership team and employees, whose talent, commitment and work ethic have shaped Eclipse Mold over the past 50 years.”

As it enters its sixth decade, Eclipse Mold remains focused on what has driven its success for the past 50 years: delivering quality products, investing in innovation and creating manufacturing jobs in Macomb County.
