Star Plastics Trails Debut in Ravenswood, W.Va.

Press release submitted on behalf of Star Plastics.

Star Plastics®, an industry leading custom compounder of engineering-grade thermoplastics, has become the namesake for Star Plastics Trails in Ravenswood, W.Va. The new recreation area was made possible in part with a grant from The Fund for Ravenswood, a public charitable fund formed by Star founder Doug Ritchie and his wife Judy to benefit the town. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Monday, May 12.

“We appreciate all that the employees of Star Plastics do to help make the company great and to help improve the quality of life in Ravenswood,” said Doug Ritchie. “These trails are in honor of the hard working and dedicated employees and associates of Star Plastics, since the Fund for Ravenswood was created, in part, from their efforts over many years.”

Founded in 2019, under the auspices of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, The Fund for Ravenswood’s mission is “to work together to make Ravenswood better by supporting programs, projects and initiatives that lead toward the vision of a better future for all residents.”

“So, when you see the children on it today, hopefully they will be the same ones taking their children on it tomorrow, and helping to improve things in town here,” said Judy Ritchie, co-creator of the fund. “It just helps to make Ravenswood a better place to live, work, and raise their family.”

The fund was initially formed by a gift from Doug Ritchie, a part of his proceeds from selling some of his interest in Star in 2019. It is a charitable fund to which others interested in the good of Ravenswood may contribute. Since beginning five years ago, it has contributed nearly $600,000 toward projects for the well-being of the Ravenswood community.
