First Pellets Produced at Orion Performance Compounds

Orion Performance Compounds, Lugoff, South Carolina, a solutions provider of highly engineered custom thermoplastic compounds, announced it is officially open at its Center-of-Excellence compounding facility with the first pellets off line 1.

With a new ownership group consisting of prior GE Plastics leadership, Orion has a talented team of proven industry veterans including President Jim LeGacy, COO Tom Drye and its Board of Directors. All who are plastics lifers have spent decades learning, living and breathing plastics. Together, the Orion leadership team has more than 200 years of collective experience in plastics.

“Having worked with Jim LeGacy in the past, my confidence could not be higher in the future of Orion Performance Compounds,” said Lee Cattell, co-owner of Custom Plastics International Limited.

I was excited to hear about the launch of Orion Performance Compounds,” added Steve Lunder, president of Granite State Plastics, Inc. “The leadership team at Orion has a strong history of listening to the customer and success in delivering exceptional products in the high-performance engineering thermoplastics market.”

Orion is proud to disrupt said market, putting the choice back in the hands of the customer. “Molders in North America need competitive supplier options that are not tied into the big conglomerate or owned by venture capitalists,” said Matthew Hurley, CEO of Titus Precision. “We need a supplier that puts customers first and that is what Orion Performance Compounds will be.”

Deep in the heart of South Carolina, the newly constructed 26-acre campus features a state-of-the-art facility with brand new, multiple Leistritz twin screw extruders from Germany. To complement and complete operations, Orion plans to grow to 50-plus team members in a few years.
