Specialized equipment used in conjunction with mold maintenance training courses created and hosted by Steve Johnson, owner and founder of MoldTrax, has been acquired by the American Injection Molding (AIM) Institute, which is a member of the Beaumont Family of Companies and will be used by the AIM Institute in its new training courses.
When Johnson decided to discontinue MoldTrax’s in-person training offerings so that he could focus his time toward the continued advancement of his software, he wanted to find an organization that would use his unique equipment to continue teaching these skills through hands-on mold maintenance training courses. “One of the reasons I thought the AIM Institute was a great fit is that I watched it grow over the years to where it is today as a global training operation… It’s going to be a perfect fit for the industry because [the AIM Institute] is going to be a one-stop shop. That’s one of the goals I’ve always had since day one,” said Johnson.
The AIM Institute will create new courses to use with the acquired training molds to cover a variety of maintenance topics, including mold and hot runner maintenance and repair, toolroom management, tooling components, and texturing. Anyone in the injection molding industry that is responsible for the maintenance of their company’s tooling can benefit from the courses.
David Hoffman, Director of the AIM Institute, is looking forward to these new offerings. “There is a great deal of synergy between Steve’s teaching ideology, the facility that Steve built, and the AIM Institute’s philosophies on education and training,” he said. “As such, this is a natural fit for us, and we believe the courses will provide high value for the injection molding community. We are excited to continue Steve’s legacy by designing a variety of high-quality courses aimed at the mold maintenance sector of the industry in an interactive format with the trainees gaining hands-on experience with real molds and equipment.”
The AIM Institute is currently building a Mold Maintenance Center of Excellence at its facility in Erie, where the new courses will eventually be held. In the meantime, these courses will be held at the Ashland, Ohio facility beginning in August. MoldTrax will continue to operate and to provide its software and support services.
Presently, the AIM Institute offers many classes both virtually and in-person, including the injection molding industry’s only ANAB-Accredited training programs. With a mission of advancing the injection molding industry by striving to deliver high-quality educational programs to practicing professionals, the AIM Institute instructors are looking forward to following Johnson’s path, which successfully served the industry for many years.
