Solve Sink Marks from the Plastics Point of View
10/13/2021 @ 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Injection molders! Do you have that “sinking” feeling when you encounter sink marks? Then join us for this month’s FREE webinar topic, “How to Solve Sink Marks from the Plastics Point of View.”
In this presentation, as part of our popular series of FREE monthly SimTech™ webinars, we will review the nature of sink marks. Sink Marks are depressions on the surface of the part. How do they occur? When the plastic in the mold cools, it shrinks. In thick sections, like where ribs and bosses meet the shrinkage can be enough to form a depression on the wall of the part. As the part continues to cool, molecules inside move closer together, and the plastic shrinks causing an internal stress that tries to collapse the surface of the molded part which eventually creates sink marks. How to avoid and solve this problem? Join our expert instructor, Todd Bryant as he examines the effects on plastic that can cause sink marks and show you how to practice solving this problem utilizing our SimTech injection molding simulator.
