Niles, Illinois-based process cooling developer Thermal Care is celebrating its 50th anniversary in the design and manufacture of process cooling technology.
Thermal Care got its start as a provider of cooling technology for the plastics market and grew its business into other segments. In 2013, Thermal Care was acquired by IPEG, a family of businesses serving the global plastics processing, waste recycling and industrial heat-transfer markets. After the acquisition, IPEG provided the company with a new facility in 2016. Today, Thermal Care is headquartered in a 135,000-sq. ft. facility in Niles, Illinois, employing over 120 people and serving over 50 industries.
Thermal Care was originally owned by Midwesco, a HVAC design and installation company founded by the Mautner and Unger families in 1931. In 1969, Henry Mautner started Thermal Care to fulfill a request by a customer to expand Midwesco’s capabilities into process cooling and developed the company’s first chillers to meet those needs. Energy efficiency, quality and innovation have been the trademarks of Thermal Care’s success ever since.
Over the years, the company has developed a range of technologies including portable chillers, fiberglass cooling towers and variable-speed chillers. Among the most popular are the Accuchiller NQV Variable Speed Chiller which has an optional variable-speed compressor for significant energy savings, and Dynamic Lift technology which continuously calculates the lowest allowable refrigerant pressure for any combination of operating conditions to maximize chiller energy savings. The company’s most recent innovation is the Accuchiller TCF series chiller, a breakthrough hybrid film evaporator chiller that reduces energy use by 34% and uses less refrigerant than competitive flooded chillers.
With over 20,000 units installed, Thermal Care continues to work with customers to shape the future of process cooling with innovative and energy savings products. Thermal Care will officially celebrate its 50-year anniversary in September with employees and the IPEG management team.
