Wittmann Battenfeld Supports High School Science Club Students

The Connecticut facility of Wittmann Battenfeld Inc., an international company offering robot automation and injection molding machine technology, with headquarters in Austria, recently provided engineering and design support to the Torrington High School Science Club so they could develop and present a new product idea at this year’s Expo Fest, an annual competition in the state.

Expo Fest is open to middle and high school students from Connecticut. Torrington High School won third place at the Expo in the Next Generation Science Standards level 2 category for their development of a “green” mobile phone case. The team developed “Bee Green” phone cases to combat the e-waste epidemic.

Paul Richard, a mechanical engineer at Wittmann Battenfeld, provided invaluable support to the students. Richard worked with the students to help them with 3D CAD design, prototype material selection, prototype mold design and more.

“Members of the Torrington High School Science Club worked hard all year to present their project, ‘Bee Green’ phone cases, at Expo Fest,” said Lisa Debany, a teacher at Torrington High School and administrator for the Torrington Science Club. “We are so thankful to Paul Richard and Wittmann Battenfeld for their community involvement, for donating their valuable time to support the students.”
