Originally built in South Bend, Indiana, in 2016, stocking distributor Chase Plastics’ state-of-the-art central distribution center is slated for a major expansion in 2019. The addition, which broke ground June 18, increases the warehouse capacity by more than 60% with an added 80,000 sq. ft. of storage for a total capacity of 206,000 sq. ft. Five additional loading docks are planned for the facility, as well as new racking, equipment upgrades and more, helping drive operational efficiencies with increased material throughput of approximately 33%.
While the building has been in existence for a little more than three years, the need for the $4 million expansion was due to the company’s product line growth and, above all, the desire to consistently provide “outrageous service” to its customers.
“This (expansion) enables greater stocking capacity and the ability to offer our customers value-added services including custom blending, box to bulk, material repackaging and later cut-off times all focused on meeting customer material requirements in the dynamic market where they compete,” said Mike Hall, warehouse manager.
The warehouse, located at 5245 Dylan Drive, is Chase Plastics’ central distribution center, currently employing 17 people. With the expansion, it’s anticipated that another 10 to 12 positions will be added.
“South Bend is a great location to house our distribution center,” said Bob Hoff, Chase Plastics’ business process manager. “We would not be able to accomplish this expansion without the tremendous support from our valued partners, including the city of South Bend, Majority Builders and Comerica Bank.
