Variothermal Mold Temperature Control in the Smallest of Spaces Eliminates Surface Defects

Live at K 2025, Hall 1 – Booth 1D17, INCOE will show how weld lines will be made invisible with the localized variothermal temperature control Heat-Inject™

It is not possible to avoid weld lines altogether, as they occur naturally due to the flow of the melt in the cavity. However, it is possible to ensure that they are no longer visible on the surface of the molded part. Hot runner manufacturer INCOE will be demonstrating this at its booth at K 2025 manufacturing salad servers from SMMA. Behind the openings in the molded part, where the weld lines form due to the melt flows merging there, the Heat-Inject™ localized variothermal temperature control system applies timed heat pulses that prevent the weld lines from becoming visible on the surface.

The product concept of Heat-Inject™ is simple, robust, and requires very little energy. A heated stamp is briefly pressed against the wall of the cavity from behind and transfers a small amount of heat. This amount of heat is sufficient to briefly raise the temperature of the mold surface to a level that prevents the formation of a weld line notch. At the same time, the amount of heat introduced is so small that it is quickly dissipated via the mold plate without disturbing the heat balance in the mold or the injection molding process. Heat-Inject™ units are supplied mounted on the hot runner system. However, they are also available in modules as an extra assembly.
