US Rep. Beto ORourke (D-Texas) recently presented a 2015 Export Achievement award to Plastic Molding Technology, Inc. (PMT), an El Paso, Texas-based precision injection molder and plastic component supplier for diverse global markets. The company was nominated by Robert Queen, director of the US International Trade Administrations El Paso, Texas, and New Mexico Export Assistance Center, part of the Department of Commerces US Commercial Service.
During his remarks, ORourke portrayed PMT as a microcosm of the broader vision to reignite American manufacturing. This certificate is a small but important acknowledgment of the work and pioneering innovation that is taking place here, he said.
PMT is a veteran-owned family business that was founded in 1973 by Charles E. Sholtis. Sholtis opened the company in Connecticut with one molding press. Three decades later, PMT opened a satellite facility in El Paso, Texas. In 2004, all operations were consolidated to El Paso as part of a new strategic plan. As a contract injection molder, most of PMTs customers require shipment of finished parts from its warehousing facilities in the US to assembly sites worldwide. Over 85 percent of PMTs finished products – in excess of $8 million annually – are exported to an international client base, with Mexico as a primary market.
