SUMMARY:RJG's Part & Mold Design for Injection Molding: Opelika\, Alabama
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nTo successfully design and produce plastic injection molds and molded components that meet cycle time\, cost\, part quality\, and lead time requirements\, networks of molding professionals need to have a common language and an understanding of core elements of plastic behavior. This course will help you understand the inter-relationships of part design\, mold design\, and quality processing\, allowing you to better: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaximize the likelihood of successful production\nMitigate rework\nReduce development costs\nDecrease the risk of less-than-optimum tooling conditions\nMinimize nonconformities\nSpeed up time to market\n\nClass topics address good manufacturing processes (GMP) for: plastic part design\, fundamental material characteristics\, robust mold designs\, necessary processing characteristics\, molding non-conformities\, and tolerances. The course also discusses how part design and material selection affect the cost of tooling and piece price. Since hands-on-learning is a core component of our training\, we utilize industry examples as reference\, then dive into evaluating and improving designs. Attendees will work in groups to examine parts to identify where non-conformities will occur and methods to improve those risks.

SUMMARY:Beaumont Moldflow Webinar Series: STAMP
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 10th – Dave Corsi\nSTAMP – Shrinkage Test Adjusted Mechanical Properties \nBeaumont is holding this FREE webinar series showcasing tips\, tricks\, and some of the latest features Moldflow has to offer. Come listen in\, ask questions and share with your co-workers!  There are three remaining webinars each covering different Moldflow topics all starting at noon EST. \nSTAMP – Shrinkage Test Adjusted Mechanical Properties\nAn accurate simulation is only as accurate as the information provided. One of the most important inputs in plastic flow simulation is the material file itself. If a material file is missing critical tested data\, then the simulated results could be compromised. Simulation software generally uses a simplified thermo-viscous-elastic residual stress model due to the lack of good material data in anisotropic thermo-viscoelastic residual stress calculations and crystallization. This model has a constant solidification temperature with available material data obtained under laboratory conditions. It can generally provide acceptable results helping users optimize the processing conditions for mold and part design. However\, model calibration and correction can further improve the predicted accuracy. Moldflow uses measured shrinkage data to improve the shrinkage and warpage prediction for Midplane and Dual Domain models known as CRIMS “Corrected Residual In-Mold Stress”. STAMP or “Shrinkage Test Adjusted Mechanical Properties” is a shrinkage correction model that will use the measured shrinkage data\, obtained from rectangular plaque moldings\, to calibrate modulus\, Poisson’s Ratio\, and Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE). This new model gives additional accuracy for 3D simulations and is only available for Autodesk Moldflow.

SUMMARY:Beaumont Moldflow Webinar Series: Hot Gate Insulation
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, March 20th – Jerry Rooney\nHot Gate Insulation – Is the Default Assumption Safe? \nBeaumont is holding this FREE webinar series showcasing tips\, tricks\, and some of the latest features Moldflow has to offer. Come listen in\, ask questions and share with your co-workers!  There are three remaining webinars each covering different Moldflow topics all starting at noon EST. \nHot Gate Insulation – Is the Default Assumption Safe?\nBy default\, Moldflow assumes good insulation between Hot Gate elements and Part elements. Consequently\, the mold temperature near the gate is quite uniform\, and shows little evidence of the heat load from the nearby hot gate. The goal was to determine if manipulating the insulation properties of the hot gate produces notably different results in terms of packing and warpage. The results show increases in local shrinkage near the gates and slight changes to warpage magnitudes. Warpage trends remained the same in all scenarios. Additional simulations should be performed to determine the trends on a variety of materials and part designs. Lastly\, future work should involve taking actual temperature measurements from a production tool and comparing to simulation outputs.

SUMMARY:Beaumont Moldflow Webinar Series: Thermal Pins
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, February 27th\, Noon (EST) – Mike Hall\nThermal Pins – How to Model and Why it Matters \nBeaumont is holding this FREE webinar series showcasing tips\, tricks\, and some of the latest features Moldflow has to offer. Come listen in\, ask questions and share with your co-workers!  There are three remaining webinars each covering different Moldflow topics all starting at noon EST. \nThermal Pins – How to Model and Why it Matters\nThermal Pins are used in place of or in addition to baffles and bubblers to improve heat extraction from hot spot regions in injection molded parts. The evolution of injection molding flow simulation allows us to evaluate cooling lines within a mold before cutting steel\, but can thermal pins be accurately modeled within the simulation? Proper modeling techniques are essential to differentiate between using a bubbler\, baffle\, or thermal pin in Moldflow to minimize hot spots across the cavity and avoid costly tool revisions.

SUMMARY:RJG Master Molder® I
DESCRIPTION:December 2\, 2024 8:00 AM–December 13\, 2024 3:00 PM  | Traverse City\, Michigan \nMaster Molder I \n\nThis 10-day certificate course focuses on the best practices of DECOUPLED MOLDING® II process development\, documentation\, and duplication for any mold in any capable machine. To help students apply scientific molding principles\, the schedule offers a blend of hands-on time with the molds and machines and participative classroom time. The goal is not necessarily to be able to “run machines” but to achieve an understanding of the “whys” behind the manipulation of key processing variables from the plastic’s point of view.
