How did plastics become your career?

I started in a family-founded business where I was given an opportunity at a young age to come in and learn the business from the ground up. My degree is in business - plastics was just an add on, but now I’ve been doing it for 32 years. I was with True Precision for almost 26 years, then had a short stint at York Imperial and then came back to True Precision in April of this year. It’s good to be back.

Describe your company.

We’re a custom injection molder, specializing in small- to mid-size runs and a lot of value add work. We can ultrasonic or vibration weld, pad print or insert mold, and we’re doing short runs using both commodity and engineered plastics. We go from 33 tons to 725 tons, so we have a broad range of machinery here – 21 molding machines in total. We also do special assembly and special packaging, as well as functional testing of products. We try to do everything that our customers need – a one stop solution from prototyping to product design to mold design to selecting materials. We can do all of the value add work and then create custom delivery systems.

In what areas are you willing to share your experiences with MAPP Member companies?

My strength is in the selection of materials for applications and its relation to product design and pricing. I’ve been heavily involved in quoting and setting up quoting standards over the years, and I have 32 years of working with an array of customers in different industries using different materials. After all that time, you learn the nuances and the different grades of each material and you parlay it into a pretty solid knowledge base.
