How did plastics become your career?

It was a gradual evolution, followed by total immersion. Three of my first four jobs out of college involved plastics. These were captive situations – injection molding and extrusion. However, I became fed up with big company politics and began looking for other opportunities, and I fell into a consulting gig. It was a turnaround situation – dairy bottle manufacturing. The consulting job lasted three years and transitioned into the start-up of Blow Molded Specialties (BMS), where I have been ever since.

Describe your company.

The core strength of BMS is extrusion blow molded products that others cannot do or do not want to do. BMS processes a wide variety of materials – most anything that is blow-moldable. About 80 percent of our business is medical/healthcare. We tend to avoid commodity situations, although that is not really possible in today’s world.

In what areas are you willing to share your experiences with MAPP Member companies?

I’m happy to help where ever I can be of assistance. There is great overlap among businesses in general, and a lot of common ground, especially among plastics processors. Simply sharing stories can be immensely helpful. Also, if an injection molder or an extruder has a project needing a blow molded part, we are happy to be part of the team.
